Opening sequence on Episode 6 - S:4

Working on Slow Horses, across Seasons 4 & 5, we were consigned to execute this complicated aerial sequence for the opening of episode 6, at night in the centre of London. The shot starts with the heavy lift drone at about 100ft in the air, descends down to street level where the aircraft carrying the gimbal/camera is caught by 2 grips as the rotors are switched off. The aircraft is then carried throughout the scene, hiding the transition, capturing all the different components and dialogue all in one continuous 2.5 minute shot. It's quite a dangerous manoeuvre to undertake with many rehearsals and safety is absolutely paramount. It called upon the expertise of 5 x technicians to execute the shot, Pilot, Camera Operator, 1st AC and 2 x grips. The collaboration of Director, 1st AD, DOP, Stunt Co-Ordinator, Artiste and the background action for the storytelling elements is a joy to behold when it all comes together. If all the pieces align and the transition is imperceptible, the sequence is smooth and silky, the audience are unaware and entertained. Slow Horses is streaming on Apple TV now.
